Gastroenterology

The specialist in the department of gastroenterology, a department that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, gallbladder, pancreas) and liver, is called a gastroenterologist. Gastroenterologists first specialize in internal medicine and then minor in gastroenterology.

Gastroscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is the examination of the esophagus, stomach and twelve intestines with a light, a camera instrument, if necessary a biopsy or treatment.

Colonoscopy is the examination of the colon and, if necessary, the last part of the small intestine with a light, a camera instrument, if necessary a biopsy or treatment.
